2020 Recommendations

Since I have added an amazing 2020 diary on my Christmas list, I am determined to use the diary throughout the year 2020. I order to achieve this, I have been watching inspiring YouTube videos about setting goals for 2020 and achieving goals. You will be surprised to hear that there are a lot of people plan their goal for the following between September – December. In result of this, I have slowly started thinking and setting my 2020 goals.

So far my aim for 2020 is not to set a GoodsReads reading goal for 2020. The reason for this is that, this year has not been a good reading year for me because, I haven’t been picking up books as much as recent years. My reading for 2020 is to read a minimum of one chapter a day in order to read daily. However I currently have 85 books on my TBR. Fifty out of the eighty five book s are books that I added onto the TBR list prior to 2019.

I know that I will not read 39 books in year and this my reason for sharing this blog post. What I am kindly asking is any recommendations of which books I should priorities and read in 2020.

The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown. I’m giving audio books a go as I have so many books on my TBR. So far I have reached the first Guidepost. So far I am finding learning about authenticity is interesting.

The Dazzling Heights by Katherine McGee. I am making good progress this week. I have forgotten what has happened in book 1 but book 2 is easy to follow.

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys. It took me a bit of time to get used to how quick the book changes between the four characters perspectives and the relationships between them. So far I have read 104 pages and I still don’t understand why Alfred is included in this book. I’m glad to have picked this up the read at this time of the year.

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. Sadly this was a DNF for me at page 100. I found the book interesting to start with. However, the more I read the more I felt lost with this book. I didn’t understand what I would learn or benefit from reading this book. I have so many books on my TBR that I have started to be brave and DNF books.

I have had Snowflakes Over Moon Cottage by Lucy Daniels on this reading next list for so long now. I think I am avoiding this book as much as I can. I didn’t like book 3 as much as book 1 & 2. For this reason I’m scared that it goes down hill for the rest of the series. So as I am writing this post, I have decided not to buy When the Sky Fell Apart by Caroline Lea yet. I’ll wait and order it when I start reading Snowflakes Over Moon Cottage.

I’ll let you know if I stick to my goal.

Very small progress has been made with The Dazzling Heights by Katharine McGee. I have decided to give it more of a chance even if I have made small progress.

Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert. I have developed an interest in reading self care or self improvement books. This book in on a number of lists on Pinterest. I’m not sure if this book is for me. It is less than 300 pages long and so I am going to read from beginning to end.

One Day in December by Josie Silver. Two people ten chances it says on the copy of my copy of this book. I was expecting the book to be similar to One Day by David Nicholls. To be honest I don’t know what to make of this book. I didn’t love and I didn’t hate it and I didn’t feel the spark between Laurel and Jack. I felt nothing. I was a bit confused at time because the plot was based in Britain but some of the language used was a bit American.

Sadly not much progress with The Dazzling Heights by Katharine McGee. The way things are going, this book is going to be a slow read for me. For this reason I started reading One Day in December by Josie Silver. This was a bad move because this book also seems it’s going to be a slow read for me. I’ll keep you updated on my progress.

The question is, shall I continue to read both books or shall I just concentrate on one?

The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris is still my most recent read. I have post a review of this book. I have decided to not read and review books from NetGalley at the moment, I’m not sure if I will pick an ARC again. In the meantime I want to continue reviewing books and so I will share a review of my favourite book of the month.

Snowflakes over Moon Cottage (Hope Meadows #4)

Book of the month September

My favourite book I read during September was The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris.

38231087

Synopsis from the blurb – In 1942, Lale Sokolov arrived in Auschwitz – Birkenau. He was given the job of tattooing the prisoners marked for survival – scratching numbers into his fellow victims’ arms in indelible ink to create what would become one of the most potent symbols of the Holocaust.

Review – This is the story of Lale and his experience in Auschwitz. During this awful and terrifying time in history, Lale always knew he would get out alive. The question was when and how. Lale met the love of his life Gita and promised her that they will spend the rest of their lives together.

Lale always saw hope during his time in Auschwitz and he shared this with as much people as he could. When he was given more rations of food because he was the Tattooist, Lale did all he could to share as much food as he could to the people who were staying cramped blocks. Everyone had heard of the Tattooist.

This is an amazing story about one man who made a difference to peoples lives during a difficult time. A book I couldn’t put down and a book I high recommend. I look forward to getting my hands on the sequel.

September Wrap Up 2019

September wrap up

It has been a while since I have posted blogs. I haven’t been much of a reader this year. Since Autumn has arrived I have found my reading rhythm. I had about 4 half read books and I had to sort them out before I got anywhere back into a reading routine. I now seem to be back on track but it’s still early days.

Here is what I read in September.

Your a Badass by Jen Sincero – This is one of the books that I have put aside for a while and finished reading in September.

An Edited Life by Anna Newton – When I first heard about this book, I couldn’t wait to get it. Little did I know then that I would take me 9 months to read. I will continue to pick up this book in order to help me edit my life.

Becoming by Michelle Obama – An inspiring read. That’s all I have to say about this book.

I’ll Be There For You by Kelsey Miller – The first book I started reading and finished in September. I found it quite fitting to read this in the same month that Friends were celebrating 25 years since the first episode was aired. I have mixed reviews about this book. I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it but, I’m glad I have read it.

The Forgotten Guide to Happiness by Sophie Jenkins – This was a DNF for me. I couldn’t get into the story and I’m afraid the character annoyed me a bit. Was gutted it was a DNF because the cover is so pretty.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris – This has to be my favourite book of the month. A page turner I read in 3 days.

What self help book would you recommend to read next?

Currently Reading June 2019

Hi everyone 🙂 I hope you are all well and are on track with your reading goals. As you may have notice, I haven’t posted on my blog since February which is strange as I felt so ambitious at the start of the year.

The reason for this is that I stated a new job in February. Instead of picking up a book to read every evening I would pick up my phone, listening to I tunes and scroll through social media for hours on end. I haven’t missed reading but I do feel disappointed in myself for not reaching for a book instead of my phone. But it’s not too late this year to get back into reading.

As I have not been reading a few months, creating a June TBR is not a god idea. So this posted will be a currently reading post to get me backing into blogging and reading.

Here are my current reads:

38746485

Becoming by Michelle Obama. According to my GoodReads, I have been reading this book for almost two weeks. This book has definitely been a good choice of book to get me back into reading.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K.Rowling. I started this book yesterday 38190531and I chose this because I will be an easy read along side an autobiography.

The next two books I need a bit of advise from you all. I have two self care books on my GoodReads currently reading that I haven’t picked up in months. I can’t remember anything I have read and because of this, I’m not sure to carry on where I left off or start from scratch.

The books I’m asking for advice are:

Adventures for Your Soul: 21 Ways to Transform Your Habits and Reach Your Full Potential  An Edited Life: Simple Steps to Streamlining Your Life, at Work and at Home
